Marisela and Leo cook a meal for us whenever we pop into their neck of the woods. Leo works cutting firewood and other odd jobs and Marisela and her neighbors cook for visitors who come to experience the cenotes. A meal with this family is quite often the highlight of people’s visit to the Yucatan.
With tourism all but vanished, their incomes have been severely impacted. These days, they work around the house and wait patiently for the pandemic to run its course, with the hope that tourism will be back sooner than later.
Marisela’s is one of the families we support with a food, cleaning and personal items package on a regular basis to make up for the lack of income. If you want to assist with this project, it would be very welcome and you can let us know by sending an email here.
